Thessaloniki, Crete, Santorini, Mykonos, Delos, Athens.....home!
Picture this, the night before we leave for Greece to meet up with Peter, it's the Blackout of 2004! I'm in Philly in wonderful A/C, and the rest of my family is sitting in the dark in NYC. I didn't think we'd make it off the ground but we got there in one piece. What an amazing trip. I spent my 29th birthday in Crete. It was everything I had remembered from years ago. These pics just scratch the surface of what a beautiful country Greece is. Peter and AJ--thanks for the memories

Hania, Crete
This is my mom's favorite picture. We were in Hania, Crete, one of the most beautiful places I have visited. In fact, I didn't want to leave. The water was beautiful, the town was small and quite, and we got to stay at a 5 star hotel thanks to mom, and her inquiries with the A/C! |

On the boat to Delos
We got up early to get to Delos, the sacred Island of the Gods, home of Apollo and his twin sister who's name escapes me. I thought the trip was interesting, but definately not what I was expecting. It was basically an archeological site filled with unidentifiable rocks. Thank God we opted to take a tour, we would have been lost otherwise. Once the tour was over, we all rushed to take one of the last boats home at around 5 pm. We learned our lesson from happened to Uncle Sam who wasn't aware that the boats stopped at a certain hour, and was forced to live under a rock for the night!

Knossos, Crete
Interesting people those Minoans where with their symbols and architecture. I especially like the gargantuan jugs of wine! |

Acropolis in Athens
On of the last pictures I took. We walked all day and took like 400 pictures at the Acropolis. Wish I could show you all of them........

Some Ampitheater near the Acropolis
I forgot what Peter told me about this Amphitheater, but just for the record, I was listening at the time! |

Grave of Nicholas Kazanzakis
This is the famous quote of Nicholas Kazanzakis, the author of Zorba the Greek. His grave is in Thessaloniki in northern Greece. When we went to visit it, the gates where closed so we had to sneek in. The saying says "I don't wish for anything, I am not afraid of anything, I am free." This is one of my favorite sayings so I had to include it. |
